Marketing and Communications InternFor more than 100 years, the International Institute of New England (IINE) has created opportunities for refugees and immigrants to succeed through resettlement, education, employment support, and pathways to citizenship. With locations in Boston and Lowell, Massachusetts and Manchester, New Hampshire, IINE welcomes and serves thousands of individuals and families annually, including people displaced by political instability, violence, and climate crises; survivors of human trafficking; and unaccompanied children joining family members in New England. As one of the oldest and largest organizations in the region, IINE plays a leading role in shaping public understanding and support of our newest neighbors.IINE offers internships to students, graduate students, and recent graduates with demonstrated interest or experience in supporting refugee, and immigrant populations. Each internship includes an educational component, through which interns contextualize their experience and reflect on their service.All internships are unpaid and correspond roughly with the US semester system:Fall Internship: Mid September through Mid December 2026First consideration is given to applicants that can commit at least 16 hours per week over the course of the semester outlined above. Applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of whether their schedule fits the semester system; IINE makes exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Slots fill quickly and candidates are encouraged to apply earlier than the requested date above.Please note that this internship may be a hybrid format, meaning that some in-person hours at our Boston, MA office are required.Step into a creative role where storytelling meets social impact. As a Marketing and Communications Intern at IINE, you'll help bring powerful narratives to life capturing the journeys, resilience, and contributions of immigrants and refugees. Working closely with the Marketing and Communications team, you'll produce vibrant multimedia content videos, photos, graphics to fuel fundraising campaigns, enhance social media, and amplify IINE's mission across digital platforms. This is your chance to build your portfolio and make a real difference, while sharpening your creative and technical skills.Reports to: Marketing ManagerResponsibilities:Help capture and edit video, photo, and audio for internal and external useAssist in drafting and planning social media contentHelp produce marketing materials for internal and external useAssemble material packets to be used in donor meetings and at tabling eventsLocate opportunities to apply expertise and add value to projectsSupport the marketing team in event promotion and other activities as neededRequired Skills/Abilities:Interest in international, refugee, asylee, and immigrant issuesInterest in marketing, communications, and fundraisingExcellent oral and written communication skillsHighly organized with great attention to detailAbility to handle multiple tasks and to switch gears quicklyProfessionalism, discretion, and maturity in dealing with confidential informationProficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPointProficiency in Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite ApplicationsEducation & Experience:High School Diploma or higherExperience working as a teamExperience with graphic design and video productionExperience with social media scheduling software, preferred but not requiredLearning Objectives:Develop skills in multimedia content creation, including video, photography, and graphic design.Gain experience in social media content planning and audience engagement.Learn how marketing and communications support fundraising and community outreach.Apply ethical and culturally responsive storytelling practices.Increase understanding of refugee, immigrant, and asylee issues through work in a nonprofit setting.Physical Requirements:Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods and use a computer and telephone.Occasional light lifting and handling of documents or office supplies.
